Greeting words, 2012 Nuclear Security Summit

Greetings,

You will remember that the Republic of Korea, as the chairman country of G20 Summit which was held in Seoul last November, had played the role of rational mediator to create new world order between developed, developing and newly-rising countries. In 2012 March, the Republic of Korea will be holding Nuclear Security Summit that is much larger in scale than G20 summit in the field of diplomatic security.

Leaders of around 50 countries and representatives of international institutions will participate and mutually collaborate at Seoul Nuclear Security Summit in order to discuss solutions for nuclear security problems which international community is facing such as, prevention of nucler terrorism and safe management of nuclear materials. Futhermore, Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in Japan has increased the international concern over nuclear safety, so the international cooperative measures could also be discussed. As chairman country of Nuclear security summit, the Republic of Korea will suggest clear visions for nuclear security and try to draw practical measures that international community should perform.

Seoul nuclear summit will contribute to more robust nuclear security system that will enable much secure and peaceful use of nuclear power. As a result, we expect the nuclear power to become a much valuable asset for human welfare and green growth.

I look forward to your support and encouragement

Thank you.

President of the Republic of Korea

Myungbak Lee
